I was on the Lady Jane Franklin II cruising the Macquarie Harbour which is more than 110 square miles of natural, protected water. Other attractions within the harbor are the picturesque village of Strahan and the crumbling ruins of a penal colony on Sarah Island where convicts built amazing ships from precious Huon pine unique to the area. The convicts called the narrow opening and turbulent waters into the harbor ' Hells Gate'.
